Sundays in May we are inviting Jenny Croft to help us build a community of fiber folks in Arnprior! Jenny will walk us through processing fibre, spinning, and weaving on the using wool donated by a local sheep farmer!
Registration required | $10 per person/workshop
May 17th 1-3 pm - Drop Spindle/Wheel Workshop:Some folks gravitate toward the drop spindle, other beginners find a spinning wheel more comfortable. Have you ever wondered which you’d like best? Let us introduce you to both and let you try modern and historic versions. Visit with ancient Arnprior tools too! 🧶
May 24 1-3 pm - Wheel/Drop Spindle workshop: Now that you’ve found the spinning method that you like best, let’s develop those skills or try the other! For thousands of years, anything made of spun linen, cotton, or wool, had to be spun by hand. The drop spindle helps people keep spinning while walking while the wheel keep the work going throughout the winter. Learn too about different spinning methods: yarn for socks, sweaters, or weaving all has to be planned ahead of time!
May 31 1-3 pm- Fleece Prep: Now you’re comfortable with spinning techniques, let’s get messy! There are different ways of washing and preparing wool at home for spinning and weaving, and we’ll show you how! This is the time to show that love of local sheep!
